Empowering women’s heart health in menopause with a
personalised cardiovascular risk prevention

CARAMEL is a project funded by the European Union Horizon Europe Programme tackling a hidden health challenge:
cardiovascular disease in women aged 40-60. Research shows that women in this age group, particularly those
experiencing perimenopause and menopause, face a significantly increased risk of cardiovascular disease. However, this
risk is often underestimated by both healthcare professionals and women themselves.
By integrating co-designed approaches with clinical data, medical imaging, wearable devices, and personal health inputs, CARAMEL aims to bridge this gap. The project ensures that cardiovascular risk assessment models are specifically tailored to the needs of women in perimenopause and menopause. Through this initiative, women are empowered to understand their heart health and adopt effective, personalised prevention strategies, ensuring they receive the attention and care they deserve during this crucial life stage.
